INTERVIEW: TORBJÖRN ANDERSSON / IRONBOURNE
💿 Hi, it’s a pleasure for us to have on Hardrockheavymetal TORBJÖRN ANDERSSON, singer of IRONBOURNE! Welcome!
Thanks for having me!
💿 Can you introduce us the line-up of the band?
Yes. So we are a five piece band, two guys on guitar, bass, drums and vocals.
Olof Geijer: Guitar. Olof is an experienced musician, guitarist and a great contributor to writing, with cool riffs and melodies. Olof works as a black smith. Quite suitable for our music and storytelling.
Stefan Viktorsson, Drummer in the band, trying to keep the pace and beat hard and heavy.
Love to play live and perform on stage. Contributes with crazy ideas and some song and lyric writing. When not playing drums, love to ride anything on two wheels.
To earn a living, works as a consultant in electrical networks that produces power to the people.
Lars Andersson, Bassplayer and the one who stands for the deep, slightly distorted base in the band.
It's probably from here that the slightly heavier and darker riffs in the songs come from.
Lars works to sell the hardest rock in Bergslagen
Jonas Windle, Guitar, the newest member of the band coming from a more thrashier background. Bringing his portion of distorted heavy riffs and shredding solos.
Torbjörn Andersson, Vocals, with a variety of influences, from Led Zeppelin to Opeth.
Trying to add some emotions and melodies to the songs. Oldschool at heart, but some proginess is always cool.
💿 On March 26th will be out your self-titled album., well-received on our pages. Can you tell us something about its composition process and style?
Everybody in the band contributes to the process. For the most part, someone comes up with a cool riff or melody and then we build from there.
The lyrics are usually added last. We try to catch the vibe of the song and then add suitable lyrics.
The five of us become our sound in a way.
We all grew up listening to NWOBHM so the sound comes to us naturally.
💿 In your early times as musician which artists influenced you the most?
We all have different kinds of influences but also a common ground in the old hard rock and heavy metal scene.
But also some early punk.
To name a few: DIO, Manowar, Ramones, Saxon, Queensryche, Sabbath, early Metallica etc.
💿 Your new album will be out on PURE STEEL RECORDS . Can you tell us somethin’about relationships with them?
We signed with them last august/september and from there we started to work on the album.
The song “The Dreamer” started it all, and after that we delivered the final master recording.
They have been really great to us so far. It feels like the perfect match in a way.
They honour the legacy of the hard rock and metal roots and that's what we do as well.
💿 How is difficult promote a new work throughout this never-ending covid madness?
Pure Steel Records do the promotion for the most part. But we of course, also do our best to spread the word, in social media etc. We would like to get out on the road to promote the record, but I guess we'll have to wait, as everyone else.
💿 Here at HARDROCKHEAVYMETAL we are strong defender of classic format..love for vintage or isn't there a future outside digital?
As we all grew up with hard copies and especially vinyl, it is of course somethin that we would like to do as well.
We´ll see about that. If the record is well received, we might put out a vinyl.
💿 In absence of live music many bands provides streaming concerts..You agree or disagree? What's your opinion about?
Nothing beats live music of course, and in these times I understand the need for streaming concerts. However we have not done that yet. Maybe if this covid situation continues, we might consider that. But we will however record a, kind of, live performance in a couple of weeks, with full production and we´ll be playing all the songs from the album.
💿 I love the cover of your album…Can you tell us something about?
Thanks, yes the front cover has a story to it. In old times, the miners were very superstitious about their work in the iron ore mines. For instance, if they saw a raven crossing their path on their way to the mountain, that was a premonition that something terrible would take place in the mine that day. Another character in the mining history is about the ancient lady “Gruvfrun” “Minelady” in english. She was the ruler of the underworld and could either bring you luck or kill you. She will appear in the upcoming video to the song “Varsel” in a couple of weeks.
💿 Thank you so much for your time! See you soon on Hardrockheavymetal, hoping to see you also on the stage as soon as possible.
Thank you! We are eager to get out and play.
Hope to chat with you again!
