💿 Hi, it’s a pleasure for us to have on Hardrockheavymetal RHETT DAVIS, drummer of STYGIAN CROWN! Welcome!!

Rhett - Thanks for having me!

💿 On June 26th will be out your debut self-titled full-length, well- received on our pages( https://www.hardrockheavymetal.info/post/stygian-crown-stygian-crown).

Can you tell us something about its composition process and style?

Rhett - We primarily write the music together. Melissa (Vocals) has vocal harmonies that she writes on piano, which we translate to guitar. Nelson (guitar) and I (drums) will write parts from what riffs Nelson has until the structures are solid. All vocal harmonies & arrangements are Melissa, as are most of the lyrics..

💿 In your early times as a musician which artists influenced you the most?

Rhett - In my younger days (and today) the bands that had the biggest impression on me where BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, RUSH, JUDAS PRIEST, AC/DC, LED ZEPPELIN, MOTORHEAD, MERCYFUL FATE, CANDLEMASS, VENOM, METALLICA, SLAYER, BATHORY, CELTIC FROST, CATHEDRAL, AUTOPSY, DEATH, WINTER, ENTOMBED, BOLT THROWER, etc...

💿 Can you tell us something about the birth of the band?

Rhett - I started the 1st incarnation of the band in 2013’, had several line up changes, song ideas, rehearsal rooms, etc… this current line up solidified in 2018’. We wrote a demo and recorded the 3 songs without a singer. Later my wife suggested I speak to Melissa since she is an old friend of another old friend. I had no idea she was a singer, I watched some videos of her singing Iron Maiden and I called her. She started tracking her vocal ideas to our demo songs and it clicked, so the band was then finalized.

💿 How is difficult promote a new work after the lockdown drama? Do you believe can you return soon on stage?

Rhett - I dont feel that it is difficult to promote the band, thus far it has been a concentrated effort by oth the band and label. I think in some ways it has made us conscious of the fact we can't play out so our attention has been focused. I’d like to return to the stage but its really not up to me to make that happen.

💿 Here at HARDROCKHEAVYMETAL we are strong defender of classic format..love for vintage or isn't there a future outside digital?

Rhett - I am a vinyl collector, and prefer to have the vinyl over a CD. I’ve made steps to get rid of my CD’s for that reason. I’ve also transferred the majority of my CD’s to MP3. I also use MP3 when listening to music in my car or while I’m out of the house. I personally understand why people buy digital simply because it is easy, and hassle free. However, it is so common place now for people to buy vinyl, and there are so many delays on pressing music to vinyl now that Pop Culture has decided it’s “Cool” to buy vinyl. I really would worry about the longevity of “vintage”.

💿 Your new album will be out on CRUZ DEL SUR MUSIC; Can you tell us something about the partnership with them?

Rhett - We were referred to them by Bart/SKOL Records who had intention of working with us but felt we would have a better push behind CDSM. Tom of WHILE HEAVENS WEPT made contact with me and between him and Enrico we collaborated to release our debut record. I cant express into words how great it is to work with them. We are very appreciative to them, honored really.

💿 Can you tell us something about the great cover of new album?

Rhett - Thank you, I am glad you like it! It was made by Misanthropic Art. I sent our demo and a rough idea of what I was looking for out of a cover. The cover you see was the end result. I have been a fan of Misanthropic Art for quite awhile and felt this was the best opportunity to try and work together.
