MIKKEL CHRISTENSEN - DEFECTO

MIKKEL CHRISTENSEN - Defecto

💿 Hi, it's a pleasure for us to have on Hardrockheavymetal Mikkel Christensen of DEFECTO. WELCOME!!

Thank you very much, the pleasure is all ours!

💿 On Nov 23th was out your new album DUALITY, well-received on our pages. Can you tell us somethin'about its composition process and style?

And thank you for the great review! Well, this time around, the writing process was a bit different than how we usually do it. For the last two albums, we had a bunch of tracks laying around, that built the foundation of the albums.

This time around, we started totally from scratch! Frederik and Nicklas both wrote around 30 songs in total, and so we chose the 11 best tracks out of those.

This also explains some of the diversity on the album, as the songwriting this time around was split more evenly 50/50 between Frederik and Nicklas.

💿 In your early times as musicians which artists influenced you the most? Can you tell us somethin' about the birth of the band?

That's a funny question to answer, because it's kinda the same for us all.

Metallica & Dream Theater, primarily, were whom inspired us all to start playing music.

In regards to the birth of the band, Nicklas Sonne had started a partnership with Flemming Rasmussen (Metallica) and met Frederik and Thomas shortly afterwards, who had their own band at the time.

They needed a singer, and Sonne needed a band, and so Defecto was born!

💿 How is difficult promote a new work throughout covid madness?

Well, unfortunately touring is not really possible right now, so we can't go on tour and promote it on the road, as we usually do.

Thankfully, social media is so present today, and through our channels on Facebook, Instagram and Youtube, the album still gets a lot of attention.

We have a couple of Danish shows in the pipeline, but other than that, promotion for the album is through our social media, and doing a bunch of fun stuff there, to gather attention.

💿 Here at HARDROCKHEAVYMETAL we are strong defender of classic format..love for vintage or isn't there a future outside digital?

We love the classic format as well. This time around, the album is out in 3 different vinyl editions actually. We do love the classic format, but also the digital.

Digital for its easy access to check out new bands in an instant moment, and reach audiences who might not have discovered us otherwise - classic format for capturing that feeling of opening up a record, reading the lyrics, and being mesmerized by the cover.

Vinyls have actually gathered more popularity in recent years, so hopefully people will still keep loving what the classic format can bring, as well.

💿 Your new album is out on BLACK LODGE. Can you tell us somethin about the partnership with them?

We've had a partnership with Black Lodge for a couple of years now, and they have been a great partner who we appreciate a lot! Other than Duality this time around, they also took care of Nemesis, our sophomore album, back in 2017.

💿 Can you tell us somethin about the great cover of new album?

Thanks! The cover was done by Stefan Skjoedt, and we definitely feel like he nailed it. We wanted to capture the theme of the album; Duality, and we think he captured that perfectly, in a simple & beautiful way.

💿 Thank you so much for your time! See you soon on Hardrockheavymetal, hoping to see you also on the stage as soon as possible.

Thank you for having us! Hopefully we will see you on the road, not soon enough..! Cheers!
