INTERVIEW / LEROI XIII' S TERRY LEROI

💿 Hi, it's a pleasure for us to have on HardrockheavymetalTERRY LEROI...Welcome!

Thank you so much! It's a pleasure to be here!!

💿 A cover of classic from DIO, STAND UP AND SHOUT, is available from recently formed LE ROI XIII.Among others, why STAND UP AND SHOUT and not other songs?

I love the songs' message of empowerment... facing your inner truth! Your destiny is in your own hands. "You've got desire so let it out, you've got the power stand up and shout!"

I also love the speed and energy of the song and because it is the namesake for the cancer foundation.... The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund... for me this song was the most obvious choice!

💿 The countribution to our scene by RJ DIO is amazing, throughout ELF, DIO, BLACK SABBATH and RAINBOW. How did Ronnie influenced you?

I've always been inspired by Ronnie's voice. It has such an incredible tone, range, power and quality to it... It's very otherworldly, there is no other voice on earth quite like it! I always loved Ronnie's charisma and class. He was an incredible front man and was very gracious to the audience... I've always been inspired by Ronnie James Dio's artistry!

💿 In your early times as musician which other artists or bandsinfluenced you the most?

This is a hard question because there are so many bands and artists.

But here's a list not in any specific order, just artists that come to mind that have had an impact on me: Ronnie James Dio, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden , Judas Priest, Journey, Rainbow... that's just to name a few but there are literally dozens of artists that have been an inspiration to me and not necessarily hard rock and heavy metal.

💿 In my opinion playing covers is more difficult that playing original music..what is your approach to give a personal touch to an evergreen song?

Yes, I believe you are correct. One certainly does not want to directly copy the artists version. So it's important for an artist that is recording a cover to put their personal stamp on it. I think that it's OK to take liberties that allow you to give it a personal touch. Take for example our version of this Ronnie James Dio track we did. We stayed true to the majority of the spirit of the song but we added a cool intro and changed the drums slightly after the lead guitar. I also threw in a few extra vocal additions. Overall I feel like we didn't really change that much but just added our own flavor. It's important for all the musicians involved to be able to express their interpretation of the song. Ultimately that leads to a unique version of the song.

💿 Here at HARDROCKHEAVYMETAL we are strong defender of classic format..love for vintage or isn't there a future outside digital?

I'm on the same page as you guys! I'm old-school and I really love vintage! I still remember the days of recording on 2 inch tape... Cassettes and vinyl albums were the order of the day. There is something to the sonic quality of analog recordings. There is a warmth and depth to the vintage sound. But there certainly is a place for digital and the recording process with things like ProTools etc. They make a musicians life so much easier when recording. A balance though can be achieved. Our producer David Bendeth is a master of creating incredible recordings using the digital format.

💿 In absence of live music many bands provides streaming concerts..You agree or disagree? What's your opinion about?

I think it's great! I mean we are artists and musicians after all! We need to write and perform and be involved in music anyway we can. So I think that it's wonderful that musicians can still express themselves with streaming. It's just a temporary fix until we are all allowed to go back out and tour.... then, it's game on again!

💿 Can you tell us something about your project LE ROI XIII?

I can tell you that it originally started out as a collaborative one off project.

But we had so much fun doing it that we are going to continue forward.

You can expect to see more All-Star lineups with some cool zoom videos.

We will record more great cover tunes and also release some original music! As long as fans are really digging it we will keep doing it! We have a lot of fun and it's great to play with so many incredible musicians!!

💿 Thank you so much for your time! See you soon on Hardrockheavymetal, hoping to see you also on the stage as soon as possible.

You're very welcome! And thank you as well I really appreciate what you do to bring the good word of heavy-metal to all the rock 'n' roll fans out there! We all need each other and I think you're doing a great job.
