BRETT WILLIAMS - AMMO

💿 Hi, it's a pleasure for us to have on Hardrockheavymetal BRETT WILLIAMS of AMMO !! Welcome!! Thank you! I'm stoked to be up in this! 💿 On Oct 25th will be out your new EP TAKING THE THRONE (On Nov 11th physically). We have the chance to listening to it in preview and we were really impressed!! Can you tell us something about its composition process and style? Wicked! I'm defiantly speaking for myself, but I tend to create a simple drum track using a program called hydrogen (it's free!) and then I'll play until something rad happens. I had written and recorded about 25 demos over the course of a year totalling 600+ hours working on them). Hammer and Into Death ended up being my favourites and I decided to record that along with Tombstone City which was a song I had written 7 years ago. Taking the throne was written by my band mates in another project with Megan Merrick of Iron Kingdom! 💿 Can you tell us somethin'about the birth and the name of your band? Which artists or bands impressed you the most as musician? Struan and I started the band in 2015 after a previous project fell apart. We recruited Alex (From horse of worms) on bass after meeting him at a local bar where he would DJ heavy metal. At that time we had Megan Merrick on guitar as well! It's kind of funny. I used to wear a bullet belt on my cowboy boots years ago and I someone at a bar came up and told me, "I love the ammo on your boots!" It just clicked. It's funny how obvious that name would be, but as far as I know, we are the only metal band called AMMO. I'm a little all over the place when it comes to music. Grim Reaper definitely inspired me to create this type of music but we really take influence from Helloween, Judas Priest, Gamma Ray, and even Dragonforce. I listen to a lot of prog rock as well, but that hasn't crossed into our sound haha. 💿There's a great return of format such as vinyl and cassette. What's your thinking about these classic format..love for vintage or is it impossible a future for music outside digital? It's possible for music to have a future beyond digital. I love vinyl and cassettes. I love the low end of a cassette. Just so heavy! It also feels good to have something physical and be able to examine the art in a big way. We get to experience music this way instead of just skipping a song because it didn't catch your attention in the first 5 seconds. We're spoiled this way. 💿 Inside your songs what's the role of lyrics in the composition process? Words follow music or vice versa? Lyrics always follow music. This might change in the future while working with Jesse (who recently took over vocals). I like creating the instrumental and then visualize what could be happening in the song. Or I'll sing a quick line or two and usually that will spark the fire we need to write them. 💿 Can you tell us somethin' about your live plans ? We're heading to Newfoundland this November to play a festival there! After that, we're figuring out our conquest for world domination. It's hard to tour in Canada during the winter, so we will plan our tour during that time. I'm looking to get AMMO on some festivals in Europe and in the USA. 💿 We love the cover of TAKING THE THRONE!! Can you tell us somethin'about? It was made by Stanislav Atanasov! He is a wicked artist. He also did Riot City's cover. We really wanted something classic and striking to look at. I really do think that 90% of album covers are actually awful. I'd like to think that someone will look at this and just think, "This better kick ass!" Haha. 💿 Thank you so much for your time! See you soon on Hardrockheavymetal! Thank you duder! We will talk again soon! Taking the throne is coming out on October 25th via www.ammo.bandcamp.com ! Pre order it, or don't. You're free to do what you want! Haha. #pics Band’s FB #ammo #nwothm
