💿 Hi, it’s a pleasure for us to have on Hardrockheavymetal GORDON SINCLAIR of MEDUSA TOUCH!! Welcome!!Hello Hardrockheavymetal thank you so much for the opportunity to do this interview for you. 💿 On Aug 17th was out an interesting anthology entitled TERROR EYES, that finally gives a complete picture of your career. Can you tell us something about this album and the partnership with OBSCURE NWOBHM RECORDS? The album is a collection of songs that we played from the 1980’s with the exception of 2. Those are RBS and Chain. The songs are all from the early 1980’s. Medusa Touch being the first song we ever wrote as a band. At that point the band didn’t have a name that we all agreed on but we eventually agreed on Medusa Touch as the band name too. The songs we put together back then were all based on the news stories that were around at the time. Late in 2018 I was contacted by KC Wild who runs a NWOBHM website asking for an interview. He also put me in contact with George Arvanitakis who runs ONR records. George was really kean to release the album after he found out we had all the material recorded. 💿 Can you tell us somethin’about the birth and the name of your band? Which artists or bands impressed you the most? The band is named after the film The Medusa Touch which starred Richard Burton. He played the part of a guy who could make disasters happen through telekinesis. When we first started we were a 5 piece band and the main influences which I am sure you can hear were AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, MSG. As the 80’s moved on bands like Dio, Anthrax and Wasp were big influences too. You might hear that from the tracks on the next album. 💿 You come from Edinburgh. What was your local scene in your early days as musicians? How much was hard praying live and be signed by record labels? The local scene was really good. There were a good number of bands playing in Edinburgh at the time but, unfortunately, none of us got signed back then. There were 3 really good venues that played a lot of rock bands back then. They were Preservation Hall, The Venue and a pub who’s name I cannot recall that had bands play. They were the mainstay. There was also a weekly rock club that was on that played exclusively Heavy rock and metal. 💿 There's a great return of format such as vinyl and cassette. What's your thinking about these classic format..love for vintage or is it impossible a future for music outside digital? Its a great thing to see music on vinyl again, I was ging to buy myself a record player as I still have hundreds of vinyl records. But the digital format is so easy to listen to and carry around. You can keep hundreds of albums on your phone to listen to. It won’t go away. 💿 Inside your songs what’s the role of lyrics in the composition process? Words follow music or vice versa? This can go either way. Back in the 80’s it was usually a riff we would play, this would normally end up being the chorus of the song. I would sing any old nonsense over the music and eventually a melody line would come out ususlly wth a nice catchy few lines. We would record that on cassette and then I’b bring the bones of a new song to the next practice and we’d work on that until we were happy. The new songs? Pretty much the same way.
💿 You had many line up changes year after year; Do you still stay in touch with previous members? All the line ups are listed on the CD. I only ever have a chat with one of the previous members. That’s Craigy our drummer from back in the 80’s who was in the 2nd to last line up. All the others have strayed away and don’t have much need or want to play in a band. 💿 Can you tell us somethin’ about your live and studio plans? Is it maybe the right time for a full-length? We have a few gigs lined up for Nov 19 and are playing the BroFest UK festival in Feb 2020. There will be more gigs to be announced, we are working on that now. As far as another full length release is concerned we will be starting to record that at the end of the year. All the songs are written and ready to go. 💿 Thank you so much for your time!
