PHILIP STROBEL - BLACK HORIZON

💿 Hi, it’s a pleasure for us to have on Hardrockheavymetal PHILIP STROBEL, drummer of BLACK HORIZON! Welcome!! Thanks to Hardrockheavymetal for the invitation, it’s a real pleasure too. 💿 On May 17th will be out your new full-length called DARK LIGHT. Can you tell us somethin’about its composition process and style? We had the pleasure to listening to it in preview and we were really impressed! I’m glad you like it because it was a long way to record this new album, it was recorded by Seb our guitar player, and he’s also a sound engineer in a very big studio in Paris. We have made the choice to rework with Achim Koelher (Avantasia, Primal Fear, Accept) for the mix and the master because he made a very good job on our first album “the Choice”. Regarding the composition process, Seb or Dom come with some Riff and lyrics and we‘re working all together for arranging all the songs. 

Except Miles Away that I have composed 30 years ago on piano. Alex is working all the lyrics and the melodies for arranging them too according to his voice. 💿 Can you tell us somethin'about your passion for our loved kind of music ? Which bands have influenced you the most? You’re right when you tell about passion, because Heavy Metal is a state of mind and I listen it since I was 14 years old, and it’s the same way with Alex, Seb and Dom. Our influences are very large, it could start from Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Saxon, Dio and finishing by Pantera through US FM style like Whitesnake, Aerosmith or Van Halen. 💿 The real “news” in music industry is the return of vinyl and audio cassette; What’s your feeling about these classic format and the current music “business”? We all live now on the digital age and digital platforms, it becomes very complicated to sell CDs and so regarding to the vinyl, I think it’s a good news because it reminds me the vintage years with this special sound on it without missing the artwork, where we can see all the details even if it's mostly about fans collectors. For the audio cassette, I’m not sure that it is good because it reminds me all the cassette tape which was broken on my audio car😆.

💿 Your album will be out via Pure Steel Publishing. Can you tell us somethin’about the birth of this partnership? It's a nice story, because I contacted a lot of record companies for the distribution of "Dark Light" and few labels responded favorably, but our choice fell on "Pure Steel" because all their teams seemed to me very professional, efficient and very responsive. I was not wrong because they do a wonderful job for the world wide release of our new album. We have good reviews from Brazil, Canada, England, Germany and of course Italy, thanks to you, and all this in just one week. 💿 On new album we can find two amazing singers (Blaze Bayley and ANDY KUNTZ from Vanden Plas) as special guests. Can you tell us somethin'about these choices? We know Blaze for 7 or 8 years now, we met him during one of his tours and we opened for him, we quickly sympathized and played with him 3 or 4 times after in France and Belgium. When I contacted him to propose to come in Paris and sing on our new album, he immediately said yes to participate in our adventure, it's a really really great guy. Regarding Andy, I met him at a Vanden Plas show in France and we ended up in the same hotel, I remember that we had a good laugh that night and I offered him to sing on an acoustic version of Miles Away and he like very much the song and so agreed to put his voice on it, he did an extraordinary job with a lot of feeling. he is a very rigorous guy and very serious when he is involved in a project he is very professional, I love this guy. 💿 Can you tell us somethin’ about your next live projects? Are scheduled any gigs? For now we are very focused on the promotion of "Dark Light" and are going to look for dates to play live, we have some dates on the month of September, but they are not confirmed yet. We also expect to find some festivals this summer in France and Europe. We are very excited to share this album live with all our fans. 💿 Thank you so much for your time!
