💿 Hi, it's a pleasure for us to have on Hardrockheavymetal GETAWAY VAN ! Welcome guys!! For a few days, on Feb 23rd, is out your debut self-titled full-length. Can you tell us somethin'about its composition process? We had the pleasure to listen to it in preview and we were really impressed! Charlie: Very glad to hear you enjoyed the record! It's something we've been working on for close to a year and a half, and we're quite happy with how it turned out. Our composition process usually involves someone playing a sick riff that they wrote at home and then getting everyone else's validation that indeed, it is a sick riff. Once we confirm the sickness of the riff, the typical next step is that the person who started the writing process will write lyrics and a general structure to the song. Once we have those three elements (riff, structure and lyrics) we basically just jam on it until everyone has some ideas for their individual parts. Following that, we tweak the song structure until we find something we're really happy with, and then everyone polishes their instrumentals. Lastly, we deal with vocals. Make sure we find good melodies, harmonies, and rhythms that fit with the music This isn't necessarily how we write every song, it just seems to be how we're most successful in our writing process. 💿 Can you tell us somethin'about your early days? Which bands have influenced you the most? Charlie: Our early days as this band? Well, Getaway Van is only a year and a half old. We formed in Nov/17, so to be honest, we feel like we're still living the early days! As far as influences go, my main influence has always been 90s grunge. I grew up on Soundgarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, STP, Foo Fighters and Smashing Pumpkins to name a dee. Zack: Definitely still in the early days, and loving every minute of it.  I have a wide array of influences ranging from folk music to heavy metal. My single biggest musical influence is definitely Bon Iver, but others are System of A Down, Tool, Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Alt-J.

Derek: Bands that have influenced me the most would be Truckfighters, Fu Manchu, Queens of the Stone Age, and Alexisonfire. You can really hear those influences in many of our songs. A common theme is a massive guitar and bass sound. Devon: Well we've only been a band for not even 2 years, so I guess we're still in the "early days". Me personally, I was raised on Classic Rock, then it wasn't too long until I got into Punk music. Artists that influenced me the most were Green Day, Alkaline Trio, Social Distortion, Against Me!, David Bowie and Led Zeppelin. I'd say we all have a big range of influences. 💿 You come from Vancouver, Canada. Can you tell us somethin'about the status of your local scene? Derek:The scene in Vancouver is weird in a sense. You have the awesome indie/bedroom pop kids playing in DIY venues and making it huge (Yung Heazy, Peach Pit, The Jins) who have a really tight knit following here, and they are also blowing up all over the world.

 Then you have this awesome Metal/Doom/Stoner Rock scene (BORT, Kosm, Dead Quiet, Black Wizard) that everyone shows up for. The Rickshaw and Astoria really support the heavy scene, and everyone is always at each other's shows. It's amazing really. Then you have this Rock scene that fits somewhere in the middle where there's not the same kind of support, and people play shows but don't show up for other bands. It's just strange. We have a lot of good friends and bands that we work with in the Metal/Doom/Stoner scene that we play alongside with, even though we're more rock focussed. 💿 The real "news" in the music industry is the return of vinyl; What's your feeling about this classic format and the current music "business"? Zack: To be honest I think the return of vinyl is old news, now it's the return of the cassette!  Then it'll be the return of the CD.

 Younger people idealize the past, and cling to all that kind of stuff. 

 Now before I sound like too much of a snob, I do have my own vinyl collection as well haha. I think it's a good idea to release vinyl pressings of your music, simply because people eat that stuff up. 💿 Can you tell us somethin' about your next live projects? Are scheduled any gigs? Devon: We've got our album release show coming up March 2nd at The Bourbon in Vancouver. It's gonna be a blast! We also have a show on March 29th at Lanalou's, also in Vancouver.

 After that it's more writing, and a lot more practice!
