LORDS OF THE TRIDENT

💿 Hi, it's a pleasure for us to have on Hardrockheavymetal LORDS OF THE TRIDENT! Welcome!! Thanks for having us! It's an honor! 💿 Can you tell us something about your early days of your career? When is this all begun? Which bands have influenced you? Well, technically we've been pillaging the lands since the dawn of time...we were REALLY big back in the middle ages until our 1342 European tour (now, unfortunately, known as the "black plague" tour).

 You see, we got some poor advice from the PR manager we had at the time...his "big idea" was to include a free rat with every ticket purchased, and obviously we didn't know about the plague or anything back then, so the headlines were all about how "Lords of the Trident spread death" and such.

 We decided to take a very short 750 year hiatus, and resurfaced in 2008 once the bad news had blown over. Unfortunately most of our die-hard fans from back then are now just dead fans, so we've had to start from square one. 

Lots of slogging it out in small-to-medium-sized venues over the years, but we've had the opportunity to meet and play with some absolutely incredible up-and-coming metal bands, as well as open for bands like Helloween, 3 Inches of Blood, and Unleash the Archers. All in all, stocks are up! In terms of influencing bands - that's a bit tough, because technically we pre-date all of the standard answers: Iron Maiden, Dio, Priest. 

However, of course, we were still on hiatus while they were becoming famous. In the tour van we listen to a large plethora of all sorts of different music, so I feel like we pull inspiration from a bunch of different places. 

Some of the bands that we all enjoy are Scar Symmetry, Savatage, Polyphia, and some more small-to-mid-level bands like Visigoth, Judicator, and A Sound of Thunder. Asian Metal and I are also big synthwave fans, and we love bands like The Midnight, Timecop1983, and FM-84. 💿"SHADOWS FROM THE PAST", your new full-length, is "hot'n'ready" and will be out from Aug 24th!. Can you tell us something about its composition process? Are you satisfied about this platter? We have the privilege to listening to it in preview and we were very impressed! We're EXTREMELY excited to be releasing this record, as it's the first with our newest members Baron Taurean Helleshaar (Lead Guitar) and Master Herc (Lead Drums)! 

We definitely entered some new songwriting territory during the creation of this album, as I feel it's our most technically challenging album to date.

 Most people who are Lords fans will likely find this album to be a bit more "mature" in terms of musicianship and songwriting compared to our previous albums. 

All in all, I think it came out really well, and I'm excited to see what the fans (and the reviewers) have to say! 💿The real "news" in music industry is the return of vinyl; What's your feeling about this classic format and the current music "business"? You know, I could write a whole book on the current state of the music business. 

I think it's simultaneously the best AND worst time to be a musician, and that excites me. In terms of vinyl - I really like that it's coming back.

 It's another way for people to people to celebrate the albums that they really care about. Due to the high cost of making (and purchasing) vinyl, and the fact that it's a BIG physical object (compared to CDs), it feels like the vinyl version of an album is the "collector's edition" in a sense. It's easy enough for anyone to download your MP3s and listen on their phone, but only someone who REALLY loves the album will purchase the $30 vinyl. Going back to the music industry at large - now is one of the best times to be an unsigned artist, as we've got services like Patreon available to cut out the middleman and allow fans to support the band directly. If you're a band that produces a lot of content (like we do), Patreon is an amazing way to get support AND communicate with your superfans.

Bands should embrace the new music industry, as it's incredibly empowering!

💿 Your new album was supported by a kickstarter campaign went live throughout last June. Your fans helped you to raise 11.000 $ for the release. Are you satisfied? Certainly, an amazing outcome! VERY satisfied! We're incredibly grateful to our fans for all the support they've shown us. It's funny - the last kickstarter we ran was for Frostburn (our last full-length). We asked for $3,000 and made almost 200% of our goal (~$6,000). This time was the same! We asked for $6,000 and almost doubled it ($11,700)! Just amazing! We're hoping all our fans enjoy the prizes, which are shipping in a week! 💿 Can you tell us something about your next live projects? Coming up in two weeks is our biggest show ever! We run a yearly heavy metal festival called Mad With Power fest, and we're releasing our CD at the fest. The fest features 7 heavy & power metal bands from all across the United States, and also features a TON of free-play arcade and pinball games. We basically take an entire venue and fill the walls with arcade games. It's a fantastic combo! That's on August 25th in Madison, WI. Later this year we're opening for Cloven Hoof and Vicious Rumors on their US tour, and shortly thereafter we're playing the CD release party for our friends Green Death! Early next year we're looking at a tour of either Japan, Germany, or perhaps both!
