SEAX - HEL

💿 Hi,it’s a pleasure for us to have on Hardrockheavymetal HEL of SEAX, the well-known US speedmetal band from Massachusetts, US! Let’s start talking about the early days of the band..When is this all begun? Which bands have influenced you? Hel: It all started one night while listening to Judas Priest and drinking with my old friend Jeremy at our old bandroom sometime between 2008/2009. I told him I wanted to start a new band to play some classic Heavy Metal and he actually came up with the name “Seax”. He even drew a logo for us. I was listening to a lot of Judas Priest, ACCEPT, Motorhead, Darkthrone (F.O.A.D.) and Enforcer at the time. Today they still influence our music, plus other Speed Metal bands like Warrant, Agent Steel, Abbatoir, Ranger and so on.

💿 On Dec 8th will be out a great compilation with your two albums as SPEED METAL MANIA/TO THE GRAVE. Can you tell us somethin’about these platters and their composition process? Hel: When we started writing songs for “To the Grave”, Carmine was still in the band. He already had some lyrics for songs like “Maniac” and “Drink, Fuck and Die”, then some shit happened and he ended leaving the band before the album was completed. We spent the next few months looking for vocalists and we already knew Steve (Ace), so Matt and I decided to drive to his home to have some beer and during that visit we asked him about singing for us and he accepted it. His voice is awesome and I think it was great to have him working with us on this album. We toured and had great times with him in the band. “Speed Metal Mania” was finished in a big rush. We had to make sure the album was completed, recorded and pressed on CD within 3/4 months I think. We had to write new songs, write all the solos, I don’t think we even jammed with vocals on some songs till after the album was recorded. This fucking album was a nightmare, but we got it done and theres no question that it is our best work so far. This albums screams SEAX!

💿 The album will be out via Iron Shield Records. Can you tell us somethin’about the relationships with this label? -Hel: Carmine met Thomas from Iron Shield on a trip to Germany to attend HOA earlier this year (2017). That’s where the idea came up. Carmine messaged us while still in Germany to give us the news and after that, I contacted Tomas directly and we started working on the reissue. Looking forward to working with him again in the future! 💿 The real “news” in music industry is the return of vinyl; What’s your feeling about this classic format and the current music business? -Hel: I think its fucking awesome. Vinyl sounds amazing and to have this format back, having our 2nd album pressed on vinyl and now “Speed Metal Mania” is also being reissued on vinyl by Diabolic Might Records, is amazing. The music business is tough. Its really hard to make it out there. That doesn’t bother us. We are doing what we fucking love and will keep doing it no matter what happens out there. 💿 Can you tell us somethin’about your next live and studio projects? -Hel: We are writing material for the new album and working on our first European tour, which will take place on the summer of 2018. We are confirmed to perform in the next years edition of Headbangers Open Air too! We will also be doing another run of shows here in the US to promote the new album. We will have our new album in Europe, so be ready for Speed! 💿 Thank you so much for your time! See you soon on HARDROCKHEAVYMETAL! Thanks, Giovanni. Come see us live at HOA next year! We cant to wait to lay Speed to our European fans!
