STYGIAN FAIR, North Sweden based HM band, was out yesterday with their third album entitled EQUILIBRIUM.

Active since 2013, they started when P-O Jonsson and Emil Holmqvist decided to leave a band called “Crave” in 2013 to put togheter Stygian Fair.

Not long after Erik Andersson had joined on bass and Andreas Stoltz on lead vocals and guitar, but this first incarnation of the band never made a big mark recording or gig wise... due to life's crooked path.

In the autumn of 2016, Erik left the band, and shortly after also Andreas did.

Soon thereafter the band gathered new momentum by welcoming Anders Hedman as the new powerhouse bass player. After a couple auditions we came across Pontus Åkerlund and felt that his voice did convey the emotions sought for in the music.

After their albums, PANTA REI and NADIR, out in 2018 and 2019, now it’s time for third chapter, the above mentioned EQUILIBRIUM.

Let’s start saying that the main difference between “Equilibrium” and previous “Nadir” is the upgrade of the production.

You can feel since first shot, THE COVENANT, opened by a a fancy arpeggio; a great heavy rock song followed by the rolling thunder of “Gorgons Eyes”.

STYGIAN FAIR are many things, known for their mood between Doom and Classic Hm. But, anyway, we can feel through this platter many vibes, closer to heavy rock, with a work well done on good melodies and all pace and rhythm changes.

The first riff in “Into The Light” reminds us somethin’ darker, all sweetened by amazing vocals lines.

“Initium Et Finis” is another great shot where dreamin’ vocals meet dark atmospheres; different ingredients for a good recipe.

After great “Dark Angel”, great heavy rock tune enriched by an inspired solo, melodies and Pontus’ voice are really exalted by “Eulogy ”.

Interesting structured FATHER OF LIGHT and TEST OF TIME, while this album is closed by the title track “Equilibrium”, that ends in the better way this new work.

INTERESTING AND NEVER OBVIOUS..TO SUGGEST!
