BAND SPELL
ALBUM OPULENT DECAY
LABEL Bad Omen Records
OUT April 10th, 2020
OUR RATING 86/100
The new album by SPELL, from Vancouver, entitled “Opulent Decay” is out..It was available on April 10th, 2020 on Bad Omen Records.
This is the third full-lenght, after “Full Moon Sessions” (2014) and “For None And All” (2017).
We love SPELL, we wanna be totally honest with you; a fancy band, proud of the lesson of 70’s but able to look forward to the future.
PSYCHICH DEATH is the first shot, opened by a gorgeous bass and by an embracing riff, with dreamin’ rhythms, evocative as ever and enhanced by dynamic job of drums.
A long seventies journey with amazing vocals entanglements and a first fine guitar’s solo.
The title track, after an instrumental intro, shows a great balance between hard and psych vibes.
SYBYL VINE shows a good musicality, with a bit of THIN LIZZY influence, with a bass always starring and a long-size guitar’s solo.
More rockin’ next PRIMROSE PATH while THE IRON WIND provides less fast rhythm and a more thoughtful mood.
Dreamin’ atmospheres, a long trip with a more structured texture which reminds us somethin’ from Italian Prog golden era.
A reflexive touch in in DAWN WANDERER while in DECEIVER, after a soft arpeggio, riff grows second after second, soft but embracing, with vocals really well-groomed and solo parts to remind.
After a short interlude entitled ATARAXIA, IMPRISONED BY SHADOWS, starts in solo, showing a more rockin’ attitude and less psych, before last SATURN’S RIDDLE, structured and complex, ends in the best way this great platter.
ANOTHER STEP AHEAD BY THIS BAND..AND WE KNOW THAT 3RD ALBUM IS A SIGNIFICANT TEST...PASSED TEST!!!
