BAND Rämlord
ALBUM From Dark Waters
LABEL INVERSE RECORDS
OUT March 27th, 2020
OUR RATING 86/100
Rämlord was formed in Helsinki, Finland, in 2010 by Jarno Anttila (ex-Impaled Nazarene, ex-Belial), Janne Mannonen (YUP), Niko Karppinen (ex-Legenda, ex-Bloodride, National Napalm Syndicate) and Tommi Kanerva (Kostajat, Murheenlaakso, Vaasankatu SS, Terveyskeskus, Utö, Maho Neitsyt).
The idea to put up the band came from Anttila's and Mannonen's need to put up a project that would find a sound of their own – regardless of genre boundaries.
On bands first releases, 7” single "Evolve To Monster" (2014), mini-lp "We Are the Night" (2016) and "Matuska" 7” single (2016), Mikko Ojalawas the vocalist.
However band parted with Ojala and recruited in 2018 Timo Salmenkivi as new singer.
“From Dark Waters”, the band's debut album, shows a clear change in the band's sound.
Whereas earlier Rämlord had always flirted with black metal influences and harsh sounding vocal grunts, this album is the real game-changer.
With eight tracks of HM with no barriers when it comes to influences, “From Dark Waters” will see the light on March 27th, 2020 through Inverse Records.
An album which will surprise you, a fancy blend of several influences that keep the listeners interested since first tune LOVE OF THE DAMNED...a drop of heavy rock, a drop of classic HM and a punky flavour..good ingredients for a tasty recipe!
The track "Dark Waters", which features Finnish metal icon Taneli Jarva (Sentenced, The Black League) on guest vocals, after a an intro in waitin’, develops itself with a great musicality.
HAUNTING ALL OVER THE WORLD shows the fresh attitude of URIAH HEEP of the modern day, helped by an effective riffing and keyboards in pole position. A great solo to complete an high-quality heavy rock song.
BLINDFOLDED is another right shot, between heavy rock and classic metal, enriched by a furious solo.
CHAINED GOD is opened by an eighties KB, showing again musicality and good melody.
If HELL IS HERE AND NOW! is smart and faster, NON SERVIAM provides a great dose of rhythm with brilliant vocals.
The last one is TO THE BATTLE, at times Maiden influenced, with a great structure and an epic touch.
TO SUGGEST..SURELY ONE OF OUR HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR!!
