ALBUM CONSEQUENCE OF TIME
LABEL CRUZ DEL SUR MUSIC
OUT May 26th, 2020
OUR RATING 90/100
Pale Divine celebrates first 25 years of their history with a new album entitled CONSEQUENCE OF TIME, out via CRUZ DEL SUR MUSIC on May 26th, 2020.
Let’s start from the end: this album is one of the best thing listened in the first slice of this mad 2020!
For Pennsylvania classic metal veterans Pale Divine, the reinvention that takes place on their sixth full-length and first for Cruz Del Sur Music, Consequence of Time, rich of different solutions.
When Pale Divine welcomed former Beelzefuzz guitarist Dana Ortt two years ago, it was an easy call for the band to make — guitarist/vocalist Greg Diener and drummer Darin McCloskey also played with Ortt in Beelzefuzz and were well-aware of his musical abilities and the chemistry the three men shared. Ortt has beefed up the Pale Divine formation (which is completed by bassist Ron McGinnis) — he is both a gifted guitarist and vocalist, something the band maximized on Consequence of Time.
The album finds Diener sharing vocals with Ortt — a first for Pale Divine — and furthermore, it has unlocked several new gateways to which the band explored across eight songs of immense depth and haunting melodic flourish.
The cover artwork for this platter was created by Brian Tutlo and is an added value to an album that describes the evolution of the band: everything changes as a consequence of time.
TYRANTS & PAWNS is the first shot, lilting and mighty, epic at times thanks to vocals, helped by an embracing riffing and dynamic drums.
An inspired solo complete this fancy heavy rock tune.
SATAN IN STARLIGHT starts lilting but with guitar right now in solo, growing second after second, with a squared riffing and thanks to a solid bass line.
An high level heavy rock tune with some seventies drops.
In SHADOW’S OWN, we can feel again vibes from 70’s hard’n’heavy, but the style is really personal, with space for soloist parts.
Great entanglements between vocals and a great production enrich the song.
BROKEN MARTYR provides again inspired solos in the first slice; the structure is complex but they’re able to show the whole thing easy, while PHANTASMAGORIA is another lilting excellent track, with doom and epic elements.
Over 10 mins lenght for the title track, a rich and fancy song which provides various solutions, throughout riffs son of Sabbath, epic or pressing moments, showing what a top band is able to do.
More direct NO ESCAPE while last SAINTS OF FIRE, grandiloquent and evocative, ends in the best way this album.
AN ALBUM TO SUGGEST WITHOUT HESITATION!!
