ANDY SORESINA & MAURO MAZZARA / ONIROMANTIC

💿 Hi, it’s a pleasure for us to have on Hardrockheavymetal Andy Soresina (guitars) and Mauro Mazzara (voice) of ONIROMANTIC!! Welcome!!

💿 On Jan 17th was out your new album entitled CHOAS FRAMES! We had the chance to listen to it and we were really impressed! Can you tell us somethin’ about its composition process and and its various style?

(Andy) First of all thank you, words like yours mean a lot and they already focus on our peculiarity: our music is difficult to be catalogued… and we are proud of it. We have been reading “goth, dark, power, symphonic, prog, trash” trying to put our music under different lights. We like to think that it’s a mix of them all… or none at all.

All musics are written by me. I compose them following my stream of thoughts, my dreams and my feelings. Then the parts are given to the other members of the band and we give shape to the song. We like to believe that our songs are made of different “layers”:

a superficial layer of unforgettable riffs and lyrics and a deeper layer that slowly catch listening after listening.

Chaos Frames songs have been composed right before Eudemonic, our second album, was released.

Eudemonic is the portrait in music of a terrible and difficult period for us all and Chaos Frames is the natural evolution, a kind of “rebirth” of us all as musicians and persons.

💿 Can you tell us somethin’about the birth and the name of your band? Which artists or bands impressed you the most as musician?

(Mauro) Oniromantic form in 2009. Andy, a well known musician of the underground scene of our city Milan, and Mattia Sciutti, drummer coming from death metal band IRA, ask for my help to start something new. I was coming form a long experience with EvilFire, a power metal band, and the melancholic music of Andy, along with my adoration for Tia as drummer, took me to fall in love in zero time with the project.

The name “Oniromantic” has been chosen because it fully represents our oniric dimension and the kind of atmospheres one can expect from our music. A few months later Elia Fagnani, already bass player of EvilFire, joins the band and we start the creation of our first album “The White Disease”. The current lineup is formed when Marco Dugnani (guitars) joins the band in 2015, when the second album “Eudemonic” is released, after meeting with Andy and building both of the guitars they play.

Our music influences are different and it’s one of the reasons why our music is not so easily defined.

Andy’s taste goes from Pink Floyd, that Marco dislikes, to Iron Maiden, to Esoteric etc. and stops a few decades ago, as nowadays he rarely finds anything he likes!

I grew up with Queen, that Andy dislikes, and with metal bands such as Angra, Judas Priests (me and Elia also performed some tributes to them, LOL), Savatage and Pantera. My favorite bands are Nevermore, Dark Tranquillity and Soilwork.

Tia agrees with the last three ones and shares with me a couple of great live memories. His musical taste goes beyond metal: he can also watch talent shows! Shame! XD.

Elia is the hard rock soul of the band! MrBig, BonJovi, Skid Row, Guns but also 70’s iconic bands (Deep Purple, Rainbow) up to HM acts as Rage, Queensryche etc.

Marco closes the circle adding an american taste, sounding like Metallica, Black Stone Cherry, Black Label Society…and Timoria, from Italy.

💿 Your new album is out via BULL2KILL RECORDS; can you tell us somethin'about relationships with them.

(Andy) So far we couldn’t expect any better. We heard many good feedbacks regarding Trevor and the guys and, after we got in contact, everything started to go smooth and nicely.

They are showing a lot of patience in replying to all our annoying questions and needs and they are helping us a lot in sharing Chaos Frames message, which is the most important thing.

💿 Inside your songs what’s the role of lyrics in the composition process? Words follow music or vice versa?

(Mauro) I write the lyrics and the words. Once the music of a song is composed, I start to listen to it again and again, mumbling and singing the parts.

Then I share very bad quality recordings with the guys and, once they approve the rough voices, I start writing the words.

Andy’s music sets the mood of what I’m going to write.

Everything starts with the feelings he shares. The words are often inspired by my experiences and thoughts, or by what my bandmates are living. So basically every song is a self biographic piece of us.

It’s what we do in every step of the way: we share our deepest feelings and thoughts, we generously give all we have, making our music a way to fully express ourselves.

💿 Can you tell us somethin’ about your live plans?

(Andy) Speaking about Built2Kill, they just told us we are going to open Pino Scotto’s concert in Genova the 18th of April! Sounds pretty exciting!

The week before we are playing at Old Jesse in Saronno (VA) on the 9th of April.

Then we are planning the month of may.

💿 We love the cover of CHAOS FRAMES? Can you tell us somethin’about?

(Mauro) Well thank you. I drew it, so the compliment flatters me XD. As we were saying, we really put all ourselves in the Oniromantic project. Andy curates the website www.oniromantic.com and the graphic project of the CD, while I drew the cover, as I work as illustrator.

About the “Chaos Frames” cover: it represents the cosmogony of Chaos as in Greek mythology. Chaos is the emptiness, the vast void who gives birth to Tartarus (crawling down), Gaia on the left and Eros on the right. In the middle Erebus and Nyx embrace, giving birth to Etere and Hemere, surrounded by, from left to right, Charon, Hypnos, Thanatos and the three Fates.

I took inspiration from the work of different sculptors I respects and I painted a dark, epic and detailed illustration that I feel represents the mood of the album.
