BAND NIGHTSHADOW

ALBUM STRIKE THEM DEAD

OUR RATING 90/100

There are great bands and bands a step ahead..NIGHTSHADOW fall into this second category!!

Originally formed in 2012 by guitarist Nick Harrington who then moved years later to San Diego to connect with his remaining band members, Nightshadow pounded the stage hard at their debut show in July 2016 and quickly developed a great reputation.

Nightshadow further established themselves by sharing the stage with the best of San Diego’s local talent as well as opening for many bands such as Appice Brothers, The Iron Maidens, Geoff Tate’s Operation: Mindcrime, Marty Friedman, Hammerfall, Beastö Blancö, and Adrenaline Mob, among others.

Because of the pandemic, vocals and drums for were recorded in studio, while guitars and bass were home-recorded.

We remind that bass player Chris lost his left hand in an accident when he was in high school.

His hand was reattached but his mobility is limited because his thumb and wrist are fused.

He learned to play bass like that and he makes it work.

The first shot is LEGEND, a sudden attack throughout classic, epic and thrash HM; it’s one of the faster songs on the album, enhanced by inspired vocals.

The following tune is WITCH QUEEN with some #melodic #death influences and slower mood; but also here they run and the chorus has a slower chanting feel to it.

RIPPER, the song chosen for the single, is a pure #powerHM attack with neoclassical influences in some of the guitar leads, with driving bass lines and dynamic drumming.

Love & Vengeance tells the story of a maiden who is offered up as a sacrifice to a monstrous dragon and is divided in two parts; the first is a slow ballad, while the second one is powerful and pressing.

CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT, one of the songs re-recorded from first EP, is a classic track, squared and powerful too.

FALSE TRUTHS, the second song re-recorded from the EP, shows a slower pace and a long intro, with lyrics against organized religions.

They go on with the title track, a real kick in the teeth, followed by BLOOD PENANCE, the fastest song of the platter.

Last two shots are STORM BRINGER, another pure #powermetal song in terms of music and lyrics, and

MISTRESS OF THE PIT that ends in the best way this album and talks about band’s mascot, visible on the cover battling a horde of orcs with her axe.

AN ALBUM TO SUGGEST WITHOUT HESITATION!!!
