BAND SPARTAN WARRIOR ALBUM HELL TO PAY LABEL PURE STEEL RECORDS RELEASE 2018 (Feb 23rd) OUR RATING 86/100 SPARTAN WARRIOR, another top signing at Pure Steel, are one of the best band born in NWOBHM movement. The debut album “Steel n‘ Chains“ and their self-titled second album, released during 1983 and 1984, were full-lenght of great quality well known from all classic metal fans.
In 2009 the band reunited and released the “Behind Closed Eyes”, all the same with the band's return to the live acitivities.
LET'S START TO END:
“Hell To Pay” is the band's fourth album and the ten featured songs are the clear example that these guys are still alive and kickin'; fresh and stunning, proud of their roots but looking to the future!
Not vintage but utmost respect for the best UK traditions! Driven by the rhythm section of James Charlton (Drums) and Tim Morton (Bass) and the twin guitar attack of Neil Wilkinson and Dan Rochester, the vocals of David Wilkinson have lost none of their characteristic bite and style.
We start our listening with the title track and It's immediately a success..a fast tune enhanced by ossianic voice of DAVE WILKINSON.
BAD ATTITUDE starts darker and in waitin' before developing in somethin' more direct.
Also vocals are more far-reaching.
LETTING GO is a direct and brilliant hard'n'heavy..a song great to playin'live!
COURT OF CLOWNS begins heavier, with beating drums, and on this sound are inlaid the voice of DAVE and the amazing solo. Surely a song a bit "more modern".
SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN starts melodic and solo is full of colours and inspiration.
WALLS FALL DOWN restarts at full speed..fresh..determined..Nobody will mess with them!
SHADOWLAND is a song with less speed but anyway smart.
COVERED IN LUST smells so much of eighties, while FALLEN is maybe less focused, in our opinion.
IN MEMORIUM ends at their best this great platter!
LASTLY:
NWOBHM BANDS ARE ALIVE AND KICKIN'..AND SPARTAN WARRIOR ARE MAYBE ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLE!
